Commissioned Art

In art, Commissioned Art is the hiring and payment for the creation of an art piece, often on behalf of another. Art may be custom-made by private individuals, by the government or businesses.

The Artwork often resembles an endorsement or sponsorship.

An art gallery or dealer who sells artworks on an artist’s behalf. Typically they take a percentage of the price. This portion is called the gallery’s “commission.” The remainder of the proceeds goes to the artist. In this way, the gallery or dealer is not just the middleman. Thus, obliquely takes the role of “patron” in that it provides representation. Also, the housing of Artwork, and marketing and income for the artist.
